La Santisima

Price: $$ Depending what taco you get – expect to be paying between $8-$13 a taco

Embark on your quest for the best tacos in Phoenix with a visit to my go-to taco haven, La Santisima. This culinary gem takes gourmet tacos to a whole new level, boasting an extensive menu that spans two pages of tantalizing options. From the savory allure of Carnitas to the unique delights of Fried Tiger Prawn, Cactus, Fried Avocado, and even the exotic Baby Shark, La Santisima offers a diverse array of choices that will keep you coming back for more. During my recent visit, I couldn’t resist indulging in the Fried Tiger Prawn, the La Santisima Special, and the flavorful Cactus tacos.

What sets La Santisima apart as my favorite is the sheer abundance of choices – a treasure trove of taco possibilities that ensures each visit is a delightful exploration. Whether you’re in the mood for gourmet creations or craving the authenticity of classic street tacos, this establishment has you covered.

As an added delight, don’t miss out on their award-winning fresh guacamole, generously portioned for two. Complementing the culinary experience are an extensive selection of margaritas, ranging from the timeless classic to creatively infused frozen fruit flavors that elevate the margarita experience.

While eagerly anticipating your taco feast, La Santisima treats you to a complimentary chip basket and invites you to dive into their salsa bar featuring a staggering eight different salsas. The small serving containers make it tempting to sample each salsa, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to your taco adventure. La Santisima truly stands out as a haven for those seeking the best tacos in Phoenix, offering a symphony of flavors and options that make every visit a memorable culinary journey.

Taco Guild

Price: $$ – depending what taco you get, expect to pay between $8-$13 a taco

Step into the extraordinary world of gourmet tacos at Taco Guild, a unique establishment nestled within the walls of what appears to be an old church. Upon entering, be prepared to be captivated by the grandeur of large chandeliers, stunning stained glass windows, and a menu that seems to follow the 10 amendments to tacos.

The expansive menu at Taco Guild is a testament to its commitment to culinary excellence, offering a diverse selection that spans from classics like carnitas to enticing lamb varieties. Much like the renowned La Santisima, Taco Guild prides itself on using high-quality ingredients that elevate the taco experience. Here, you won’t encounter your average beef and cheese options; instead, tantalizing choices include roasted leg of lamb, molida lamb, and even lobster – a true testament to the creativity in crafting the best tacos in Phoenix.

In the snapshot above, I indulged in the Roasted Leg of Lamb, Molida Lamb, and the classic favorite, Pork Carnitas (because who can resist delicious pork carnitas?). The popularity of Taco Guild is evident, with eager patrons forming a queue even right at opening time. Within just thirty minutes, the space was already over half-filled on a regular workweek, a testament to the irresistible allure of their gourmet and delicious tacos.

Complementing the taco feast is a generous serving of chips accompanied by three different salsa options, each varying in spice intensity. The combination of exquisite ambiance, gourmet taco offerings, and attentive service makes Taco Guild a standout destination for those seeking the best tacos in Phoenix – a true haven for discerning taco enthusiasts.

My favorite aspect of this place in comparison to the other joints? The cocktail list. This makes it one of the best tacos in Phoenix because of the opportunity to partake in some snazzy cocktails at the same time! The drink menu offered the usual margarita, to bit stronger traditional cocktails.

Similar to La Santisima you will be paying a pretty penny for a taco at this place. This isn’t your street cart taco though – so the price is worth it for the tasty ingredients.

Taco Chiwas

Taco Chiwas one of the best tacos in Phoenix if looking for a classic traditional taco.

Price: $ – you will only be paying approximately $2 a taco here – this is a more classic street style taco joint

For an authentic taco experience that earns its place among the best tacos in Phoenix, Taco Chiwas is the go-to spot. While I don’t want to undermine other joints by labeling them as non-authentic, Taco Chiwas stands out for those seeking a more classical or street-style taco adventure.

What makes Taco Chiwas a contender for the best tacos in Phoenix is precisely the focus on classic street-style offerings. Picture the simplicity of beef, carnitas, and chicken, adorned with just the right touch of cheese – these are the timeless classics that define the essence of Taco Chiwas. On my visit, I opted for the mouthwatering Carnitas, savoring the authenticity of every bite.

To enhance the taco experience, a salsa bar awaits, allowing you to customize your plate with an extra kick of spice. The choice between flour and corn tortillas is offered, and I highly recommend opting for the latter to elevate the experience.

Taco Chiwas stands out not only for its authentic flavors but also for its affordability – offering some of the best-priced tacos in Phoenix with a quick turnaround. However, the small size of the joint presents a challenge. The tiny parking lot fills up rapidly, and the establishment, with only about seven tables, reaches its capacity swiftly. Despite the size limitations, the charm lies in the classic taco joint ambiance. If you’re willing to brave the Arizona heat, outdoor seating under umbrellas provides an alternative for those seeking a spot at this popular taco haven. Just be prepared for the cozy confines that add to the allure of Taco Chiwas as a classic, rather than a modernized, taco destination.
