Snow Forecast at Söll

Is Söll snow sure? Located in the Austrian Alps, this ski resort offers excellent snow coverage from late November until early April. With over 280 km of skiable terrain and a top elevation of 1957m, Söll boasts fresh powder conditions for both beginner and experienced skiers alike. Additionally, its state-of-the-art snowmaking capabilities ensure excellent skiing conditions even during periods of low natural snowfall. So you’ll have no worries about snow conditions when skiing Soll.

For the season at Söll there is typically about 400cm of snow fall. With an average base of 50cm and an average summit depth of about 125cm. Typically in a season will be about 25-30 snow days.  Due to the limited amount of snow days in a season, there will not be too many opportunities for fresh powder.

Due to the limited amount of snow days, there will ultimately not be many bluebird days. However, there is a high probability of at least having a fair-weather trip and be able to enjoy groomed trails with beautiful mountain views.

The area of Söll is next to the Söll area of the Wilder Kaiser, this part of the Ski Welt resort is nestled against two other resort areas, and therefore does not offer backcountry skiing / touring.  You can partake in some off-piste skiing that are nearby the runs, mainly the gondola / lift areas.

However, the Wilder Kaiser is broken up into regions based on the nearby town.

You will have to travel to Ellmau in order to partake in backcountry touring as most of the other areas of the mountain are groomed and resort areas.

Check out here for Ellmau Backcountry tours.

Crowds at Söll

The crowds at Söll are manageable. It is not as busy as Kitzbuhel, and on par with the crowds at Alpbach. The lifts are large enough to get visitors about the resort without causing a large line build up. Additionally, being that the surrounding towns to the SkiWelt are relatively small there is never too many people on the mountains – and they are spread across the mountain range.

Where to Eat at Söll

There are a lot of great places to eat at while on a ski trip to Söll, but here were some of my favorite and top recommended places to eat:

  • Auf da Mühle – if you can think it, this place has it. The menu at Auf da Mühle is extensive from pasta, stone grilled steak, and everything inbetween. With a large sitting area there is never too long of a waiting time.
  • Cuisine Gaia – A bit of a rare find in the Tirol region – but a very popular Asian / Indian fusion cusine location. Delicious food, but expect artist smaller portion and a bit higher price tag than other locations in Söll

Cultural Experience

At first glance, Söll looks like most of the ski resort areas in the Tirol region. However, if you are going for a real Austrian cultural experience this is not the location for you. Söll has become a very popular getaway for the British which has altered a lot of who works in the area, and the establishments that are opening up. During my stay here, I saw more British than Austrians. The main town of Söll caters heavily to these British travelers, as the area seems to be popular for holiday travel agents.

If you want a bit more of a real Austrian experience, then stay at some of the hotels on the outskirts of the town.
