The Murals at Deep Ellum
The number of murals to be seen at Deep Ellum is hard to estimate as the original project was called “42 Murals”. This was founded by 42 Galleries in order to promote local artists and to bring in tourists to see murals in Dallas.
What started as an opportunity for an artist to showcase their work has now grown. While there are still the original 42 murals found across Deep Ellum, of which you can see most have “42 Murals” identified on it, there are now more than the original set!
The main upside? The murals are all within several blocks of each other! Here is a small sample list of the ones you can visit.
You will find a majority of these murals between Good Latimer Expressway to the S Malcolm X Blvd, along Main Street, Commerce St, and a couple up on Elm Street.
Parking at Deep Ellum
You will find a lot of parking spots along the various avenues of Deep Ellum making it not too difficult to see these murals in Dallas.
A majority of the parking spots along the avenues are metered, and during the day, every meter is free until 6pm. However, always make sure to check the meter which will have stated the free period, or pay period! These spots fill quickly, and unless you are there starting early in the day finding one of thesse spots will be more based on luck of someone departing when you happen to drive by.
There are also pay lots in Deep Ellum which will have attendants, typically these lots will cost $5, however they fill up very quickly.
Other Street Parking
This is the best bet. Start by searching for street parking about two or three blocks away from the main Deep Ellum area. This is going to be one of your better options for finding parking. From there you can easily walk five minutes into the heart of Deep Ellum.
Must See Murals at Deep Ellum
Here are some of the best Murals to see while at Deep Ellum. You will find a lot more! So take the time to explore around the city and take in all the murals – find which one is your favorite!
Catching Fish
This mural was probably my favorite of the murals in Dallas. Maybe because it was a cat, but not only a cat, but the weird naked cats that really freak everyone out.
This one is also great because the cat is made up of little sections that resemble fish. Making the mural very fitting to the title of the work.
Cosmic Journey
Another large parking lot mural, this one has a large variety of colors. This one also features some cactus which is a popular item to feature for the Texas “desert vibe”.
Address: Pecan Lodge Building – 2702 Main Street
As She Smiles
Not one of the largest murals to be found in Deep Ellum, but still very impactful. This one is similar to one of the later murals: “Eyes”.
Address: 2651 Commerce Street
I Love You
This one probably does not need much explanation as to why it is popular. People love taking photos in front of romantic murals.
One downside of this mural is that it is located on a parking lot wall making it difficult to get a photo if the lot isn’t blocked off.
Address: 239 N. Malcolm X Blvd.
Viva Deep Ellum
There are numerous “Think Ellum” or murals themed around the city name of “Deep Ellum”. This gives you plenty of chances to get that perfect Instagram photo spotlighting the city that you are in.
However, this one has a nice twist featuring the Hispanic influence found in Texas, so check out this “Viva Deep Ellum” mural.

American Flag
Everything is bigger in Texas, right?

This is a great one to visit as well as compared to other murals in the area this one is a big mural off the main street and hardly ever crowded.
